Former Senator Lacson Raises Concerns Over Proposed Bill Granting "Menstrual Leave" to Women in the Philippines.
Former Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson has expressed his opinion on a proposed bill filed by Gabriela Women's Party Rep. Arlene Brosas, which seeks to grant women a paid two-day "menstrual leave" every month. Lacson weighed in on the issue, noting that while it is important to promote gender equality and support women's rights, granting menstrual leave could potentially lead to discrimination against women in the workplace.

According to Lacson, allowing for menstruation leave can be viewed as discriminatory because it might suggest that women are less productive than males. He also voiced worry that some firms could pick men over women when hiring in order to avoid the hassle of providing menstrual leave.
On the other hand, Brosas defended the bill, stating that menstrual leave is a necessary measure to ensure the health and well-being of women. She noted that menstruation can cause physical discomfort and mental stress, and that granting menstrual leave would enable women to rest and recover during their monthly cycles.
Menstrual leave is a basic right that should be provided to women, according to the proposed bill, but opponents contend that it could be harmful and result in discrimination at work.
Mixed responses have been received from a variety of groups, including former senator Lacson, about the proposed measure offering paid menstruation leave to women. While advancing women's rights and gender equality is crucial, there are worries that allowing for menstrual leave may result in discrimination and other unfavorable employment consequences.
