Ilocos Norte Shaken: Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Recorded by Phivolcs

 


On Tuesday afternoon, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred in Ilocos Norte, as confirmed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake took place at 1:51 p.m., 35 kilometers southwest of Burgos town. According to Phivolcs chief Teresito "Toto" Bacolcol, the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers.

Residents of several areas including Pagudpud, Bangui, Sarrat, San Nicolas, Pasuquin, Bacarra, City of Laoag, Carasi, Burgos and City of Batac, Ilocos Norte felt the intensity 4, while those in Paoay felt intensity 3. Although no damage to infrastructure was expected, aftershocks were possible.
