"6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Catanduanes: Tsunami Alert Issued
A 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck Catanduanes province on Tuesday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake struck at 8:54 p.m., with the epicenter 120 kilometers southeast of Gigmoto. According to Phivolcs chief Teresito 'Toto' Bacolcol in a statement to The Manila Times, the earthquake was of tectonic origin and had a depth of nine kilometers. In addition, Bacolcol warned of potential infrastructure damage and aftershocks. Phivolcs has issued a tsunami warning, advising residents in Catanduanes, Northern and Eastern Samar not to go to the beaches.
