The Philippine National Police chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. has called on the five members of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo's security detail to explain their absence on the day he was killed. Five out of the six police escorts assigned to Degamo did not report for duty on March 4, the same day that the governor and eight others were killed in a gun attack in his residence. Azurin emphasized that the security detail's duty schedule should involve a rotation and that the absence of all five personnel at the same time was highly unusual. Azurin also noted that the governor personally selected his security personnel. The whereabouts of the missing personnel have been accounted for, according to Azurin. House Speaker Martin Romualdez called the absence of the security personnel "highly suspicious" and has called for an investigation. Sixteen people, including three provincial officials, were wounded in the attack.

The investigation into the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and eight others continues to raise questions, particularly with regards to the absence of five out of the six police escorts assigned to the governor on the day of the attack. Philippine National Police Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. has called on the missing personnel to explain their absence and shed light on what happened during the incident.

Azurin noted that the security detail of the governor typically operates on a rotation schedule, meaning that it is highly unusual for all five members of the team to be absent at the same time. He also pointed out that the police security detail was personally chosen by Degamo, and the governor knew the members of his security team.

The absence of the police escorts has raised suspicions, with House Speaker Martin Romualdez calling it “highly suspicious.” Romualdez has also called for a probe into their absence on the day of the attack.

Despite this, Azurin assured the public that the whereabouts of the police escorts have been accounted for. The investigation into the attack is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to gather evidence and piece together what happened on that tragic day in Pamplona town.
