DOST-PCIEERD's Official Facebook Page Hacked, Council Assures Clients of Unaffected Services
The Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), a council under the Department of Science and Technology, announced on Saturday that its official Facebook page was hacked on April 7 at midnight. The council has already informed Meta, the parent company of Facebook, about the incident and is currently working closely with the tech giant to regain access and control over its page.
The council promised its clients in a statement issued on April 8 that it is making every effort to find a solution as quickly as possible. It further underlined that while the page breach may have worried some of its followers, the issue had no impact on its services, client information, or systems. The DOST-PCIEERD advised its followers to report any odd online conduct or posts that might arise on its Facebook page right away to the council or to Facebook.
In addition, the council has asked the public to report any content on Facebook that violates its guidelines, including nudity, violence, harassment, false information, spam, unauthorized sales, hate speech, terrorism, and other forms of misconduct. The DOST-PCIEERD's page has uploaded photos of a man carrying a toddler and a woman speaking at an event as its profile pictures. Currently, the latter is featured as the profile picture.
